In church today, one of the speakers was the mother of a returning missionary who also spoke. She talked about how her children had all had another mother. With her first daughter it was an ICU nurse who held her baby and knitted her booties to wear when the only other thing she could wear was a diaper while in the isolette. That reminded me of Sara's short stint in the ICU and how healthy she is now. Thank the heavens for answered prayers.
Then the speaker went on to tell about her childrens' other mothers- she has two children who are adopted - they have natural mothers who gave them life and one who spent time in foster care. The speaker was able to give birth after adopting, but again, her baby spent over a month in ICU with many other mothers. She spoke of all the other mother's her children have had in primary, YWs and that we all have in different stages of our lives. Women all around us contribute to our lives, they are another mother to us.
This was a wonderful talk for this Mother's Day - speaking to all women -we are all mothers as we contribute to the well being of children growing up around us. Thank you to all the women in my life. I need your love and support to be who I am. Without you I couldn't be a mother.
In the Latino culture Mother's Day is a huge deal, and it really is for every woman. All the women get hugs with kisses on the cheek and thank-yous from the men, it is a great day to attend church!
The kids had a great time with the bracelets, it fit perfectly into the time we had allotted and each child made their bracelet individual with the beads I provided. For the girls in our primary whose mother is still in Ecuador I provided an envelope and some money so they could mail their bracelets to their mother.
We ended the meetings with the children singing, "Soy Un Hijo De Dios" (I Am A Child of God) and the women were fed wonderful food. It always warms my heart when the Latinos make American food for us, it always comes out with a Latino slant. We had the traditional Relief Society food of crossiants with chicken salad except the chicken salad had peas in it :) It still tasted great. Then we had jello (Mormon necessity) and chocolate cake topped with flan. There were gifts galore, from the teenagers, the primary (of course) and the Relief Society gave an entire gift bag of misc.
This evening DH made a great dinner and we've just had a wonderful day, beautiful weather and enjoying time with my mom. It couldn't have been a better mother's day. Thank you all so much. I am so blessed. And I can't believe that I am now able to go on a getaway with DH for 4 days while my mother is here to take care of the kids!! WOO HOO!
See you later....
I am SO happy for you...what a great day! Thanks for sharing that with us. I love hearing about the different perspective. I mean it really how it should be for Mother's Day every where, right?!
Calah was so excited because she was sure we would get chocolate again. I mean really, so was I!! But we got a carnation instead...oh well.
Your chocolate flan cake sounds great :-)
