The morning of the first frost is special. This one morning of the year flowers are dusted with a frozen mist. If you see them just as the sun is rising, but before it strikes them, they sparkle and dazzle with the beauty of their summer color and the touch of winter. Just minutes later the sun hits and the damage is done. The delicate petals can't live under the drastic temperatures and so the flower is lost.
Later in the day every spot on the zinnias that were delicate white this morning had turned brown. The cosmos' paperthin petals droop heavily, waiting for a strong wind to blow them free of the stem.
This one day makes all the difference. It is winter.
Ooh, beautiful flowers. I never thought to take pictures of them with frost on them.
